On Finnish carrier Elisa

Finland is the land of Nokia and Nokia is a big player in the 5G infrastructure. This is why Finnish telecommunication carrier Elisa plans to launch a OnePlus 5G enabled device in the second quarter of 2019.

It is expected that OnePlus might talk a bit about its 5G device and a successor of OnePlus 6T following next Monday at the start of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. From what we know from the Qualcomm side, Alex Katouzian SVP at Qualcomm confirmed back in December at its Maui Hawaii event that the X50 modem works with Snapdragon 855. There won’t be any hybrid Snapdragon X50 modem devices with the previous generation SoC such as 845.

OnePlus announced at this event that it hopes to be the first with a Qualcomm X50 5G solution and it will be a tight race since Samsung announced its S10 5G will launch later this year. The 5G needs a network, and it will come down to the telecoms players to officially launch 5G network for their clients, in order for OEMs such as OnePlus to launch their devices. OnePlus is also committed to bringing 5G to the UK EE network later this year.

OnePlus (7) 5G at MWC

Now an official spokesperson confirmed that the OnePlus 5G Prototype powered by Snapdragon 855 will be shown. The visitors will be able to experience Cloud Gaming via 5G at the Qualcomm booth Hall 3 Stand 3E10. Just to be clear, OnePlus never mentioned the number 7, but it just makes sense.

5G will bring low latency, higher speeds and more immersive content for the devices and OnePlus has a chance to be one of the leaders in this new technology.

“5G is a revolution which can bring change far beyond (for) the technology industry, for people everywhere, for everything from gaming through to mixed reality apps, healthcare, and much more. We’ve worked hard to lead 5G innovation as this new era starts, working closely with partners like Elisa to create something special. 5G is the catalyst which allows us to re-imagine the future”, Pete Lau, CEO and founder of OnePlus, said in a statement.
