Working with Qualcomm to get the first 5G device to the market

Oppo has shown its first device that has achieved 5G speeds by opening its own site on a modified R15 smartphone.

Oppo has already announced at the Beijing 2018 Qualcomm China Technology and Cooperation Summit that it is working to bring a 5G-enabled device to the market. The result, after completing the first 5G tests back in August, is a modified Oppo R15 smartphone, which is probably based on Snapdragon X50 modem and has opened the company website on 5G speed.

Unveiled on Weibo by Brain Shen, Oppo's VP and President of the Business Department in China, the device was running in Oppo's lab and is the next step in company's aim to be the first smartphone maker to come up with a commercial 5G smartphone.

Oppo will have a hard time beating both Xiaomi and OnePlus. Xiaomi already announced a 5G version of its flagship Mi Mix 3, which should be coming to Europe in early 2019, while OnePlus said its 5G flagship will be coming in the first half of 2019.

We will probably see a tight race between a bunch of companies to claim the first 5G device title.
