Nokia Pureview coming to Lumias

by on04 February 2013

With Canon-esque EOS branding

The Nokia 808 Pureview was the Finnish outfit’s last Symbian handset, but it’s not the end of the road for Pureview sensors.

According to the Guardian, Lumias with Pureview sensors are on their way. The first model will be known as EOS, although we’re not sure Canon will be thrilled with Nokia’s branding. There has been much talk of Pureview packing Lumias in recent months, but the rumours were hardly surprising, a bit like iPad mini Retina rumours.

The 41-megapixel Pureview sensor on the 808 got excellent reviews, although the phone itself was practically obsolete at launch. However, in spite of its antiquated OS, the camera managed to set a new benchmark for smartphone photography. Thanks to the sheer size of the sensor, the 808 offered unbeatable low light images and less noise than other smartphones.

The downside? The camera was a bit too bulky. Let’s hope Nokia managed to come up with a much smaller package over the last 12 months.
