Samsung spices things up with Galaxy SII Plus, Galaxy S Duos

Money to be made in mid range

Although Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S III has been stealing headlines for weeks now, the Korean giant did not forget about the mid range market.

The Galaxy S Duos is set to appear in Euroland next month and it is a rather strange little device. Equipped with a single-core Qualcomm 1GHz chip and a 4-inch WVGA screen, it sounds pretty much like a high-end device anno 2010. However, the Duos features ICS and it is styled to resemble the Galaxy S III as much as possible.

Best of all, it is a dual-SIM device, which is pretty unusual in the EU market. So, it looks pretty nice, but it will probably end up on the cheap side and allow frequent travelers to cut down on roaming costs or juggle business and private lines on a single device.

The Galaxy S II Plus aims at somewhat more demanding consumers. It is a restyled take on the Galaxy S II, packed with a bigger 4.5-inch AMOLED display and a dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos processor. With 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, the Plus sounds like a pretty capable device even by today’s standards. No word on pricing or launch date yet.
