Google gets into handwrite search

by on27 July 2012

For mobile phones and tablets

If you don’t like to type your way into google.com now there is a new option for mobile touchscreen phones, or should we say smartphones and tablets.

Google has announced support for handwriting recognition for the Android stock browser and even for Google Chrome. It works in both, we just tried it.

While it does tend to work, it tends to miss a letter or two in the search word, as it quite often thinks that you wanted to write D and not some other letter. Generally it works fine, it's good enough for ransom notes, but the hardware menu tends to slightly slow down the loading of a google.com mobile which is not something that many will appreciate.

All you need to do in order to make it work is to go to google.com on your phone or tablet and under settings just find handwriting and enable it. After you save your new settings you are good to go.

Google has a video of it after the break.
