Android outpaces iPhone

Sales double in mere months
According to Nielsen research, US consumers are turning to Android phones in droves. The shift has had a profound effect on the smartphone market, as once dominant players lose ground to the new OS.

Earlier this year Android managed to squeeze past Windows Mobile and now it appears to have outsold the iPhone as well. Blackberry is also losing share and there is a strong chance Android will overtake it later in the year.

The shift to Android can be attributed to Verizon’s efforts to promote the new platform. However, it’s still a noteworthy achievement for the youngest smartphone OS on the market, especially considering the strength of RIM and Apple on the US market.
