The Vertex 2 Pro and Vertex 2 EX

Already seen listed in couple of shops in EU, OCZ Technology has finally announced its Vertex 2 Series solid state drives based on the Sandforce SF-1500 controller, the Vertex 2 Pro and Vertex 2 EX.

The Vertex 2 Pro use MLC NAND flash memory chips, while the top-notch Vertex 2 EX is based on the SLC NAND. Both drives will be offered in two versions depending on their purpose, so you'll either go for the SATA 3.0Gbps or the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) interface if you are looking for some enterprise fun.

Both drives will have a native TRIP support, advanced ECC protection, encryption and block management and both will have a maximum read and write speeds of up to 285MB/s and 275MB/s with 4KB random writes of up to 50,000 IOPS.

The Vertex 2 Pro will be available in 50, 100, 200 and 400GB capacities, while the Vertex 2 EX goes from 50 to 200GB. All drives are backed by 3-year warranty period and since we are talking about top-notch drives expect them to have a top-notch price tag as well.

The Vertex 2 Pro has already been listed for quite some time with a price of around €400 for the 50GB version all the way to around €2250 for the 400GB version.

You can find the Vertex 2 Pro listed here, while the €895 50GB Vertex 2 EX and the €3650 Vertex 2 EX 200GB can be found here.
