20% lower consumption

Kingston has teamed up with Rambus on delivering a new DDR3 prototype, which is a multi-threaded memory module tailored for multi-core computers. The optimization of these modules allegedly resulted in a 50% performance increase compared to the current DDR3 modules.

Furthermore, the companies claim that the power consumption has been lowered by up to 20%, as the new circuitry is much more effective and doesn’t have to be activated as often as the current ones.

Rambus isn’t saying much else, although many would like to know about compatibility with the current crop of DDR3 motherboards, but the company is set to reveal more bits sometime next week so stay tuned.
