128GB to 1000GB

It's not
easy to say that a 500GB drive priced at €1400 is a sensible deal, but compared to OCZ's Z-Drive series drives, the new Colossus series is just that.

The Colossus will be available in 120GB, 250GB and 500GB capacities, while the Colossus Cascade series will ship in more bourgeois sizes: 250GB, 500GB and 1000GB. The plain Colossus series features read and write speeds of 260MB/s and 128MB of cache and 2x Indilinx controllers, while the Cascade has the same transfer speeds, but packs 256MB of cache and 4x Indilinx controllers. Bear in mind that these aren't the official specs and we haven't confirmed them yet.

We still don't know the prices or availability dates for all of them, but according to some early listings, the Colossus series will cost €399, €749 and €1399 in 120GB, 250GB and 500GB capacities. This might sound like a lot, and frankly it is, but they still cost half as much as Z-Drive models. Not surprisingly, they're read and write speeds are about half of those you'll get with the overkill Z-Drives.

In spite of that, if you were to take the Z-Drive series out of the equation, the new Colossus and Colossus Cascade drives would be the biggest and fastest drives on the market.
