In details

A lot of Radeon HD 3870 X2 pictures have found their way onto the Internet and we've seen plenty of pictures of this card during CES, although no one had details about the cooling solution. That was until now, as Chiphell has managed to take the cooler apart and show us what is it all about.

According to the pictures, the Radeon HD 3870 X2 cooler has three heatsinks, one for each RV670 core, and a larger cooling plate for the memory and the VRM. The cooler has no heatpipes, and the major concern is the position of the fan, since it has to push a lot of air to reach the second GPU, which will get the relatively hot air since it first has to pass over the first core.

The bottom line is the performance of this cooler, which might end up to be either good or bad for the second GPU, but we will just have to wait and see.
