Barely better than a 2600XT ?

Club3D has announced the first Radeon HD2900GT card.

The card, labeled CGAX-G296, comes with 256MB of GDDR3 memory, a 256 bit memory bus and 240 Stream Processors. The GPU is clocked at 600MHz, while the GDDR3 works at 1600MHz. This is the cut down version of R600 chip with less shaders.

Club3D's 2900GT uses a triple heatpipe cooler and the company promises a quiet ride. It has two 6 pin power connectors and, if the system requirements are anything to go by, it needs a 650Watt PSU.

One of the more interesting things is Club3D's performance comparison chart, in which the card's performance is depicted as just marginally better than that of the 2600XT. This  just doesn't sound right and, for lack of a better word, we doubt it, since the specs promise significantly higher performance than the 2600XT, at least on paper.

You can check out the rest of the specs and pictures on the product page, here.
