Three new R5 230 graphics cards

Sapphire has unveiled three new entry-level graphics cards which will be a part of the Radeon R5 series lineup. The new R5 230 graphics cards will be available in three different versions.

Based on the Caicos GPU, the R5 230 packs 160 Stream Processors, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs and is pretty much a rebrand of the Radeon HD 6450 graphics card launched ages ago.

All three new R5 230 SKUs from Sapphire are based on low-profile design and come with completely passive cooling in form of a single heatsink. Available with either 1 or 2GB of DDR3 memory the first two announced R5 230 SKUs feature 160 Stream Processors, and work at 625MHz for the GPU and 1334MHz for memory paired up with a 64-bit wide memory interface. Both feature D-Sub, HDMI and DVI outputs.

The third SKU from Sapphire, the R5 230 FleX is a rather interesting little thing. Although it has the same 160 Stream Processor but a slightly higher clocked 1GB of DDR3 memory set to work at 1600MHz effective, also comes with an ability to support three DVI monitor in Eyefinity mode with the need for any active adapters and thus deliver a true SLS (Single Large Surface) work area, according to Sapphire. It features two DVI and single HDMI output and comes supplied with HDMI to SL-DVI adapter.

All three models ship with low profile bracket and as noted, are passively cooled.
