Partners give us the nod

According to a couple of AMD AIB partners that we will not reveal for obvious reasons, AMD currently plans a US $699 price tag for the Radeon R9 290X graphics card.

It is most likely that AMD talks about BattleField 4 Edition price, although most of our sources agree that most if not all Radeon R9 290X graphics cards will actually be BF4 Edition cards, at least until AMD runs out of BF4 codes from EA/DICE. Some partners also noted that despite the fact that AMD currently talks about US $699 price tag, it can quite easy change it at the last minute.

AMD is doing a great job in keeping the information regarding the R9 290X under wraps and the reason behind the mystery of the R9 290X price tag is to keep Nvidia from repositioning its GTX 780 graphics card. The US $699 price tag puts it in line with the US $729 leak on Newegg.com.

The US $699 price tag for the R9 290X seems reasonable considering the rumored performance. Although most people hoped for US $599 or similar price, it simply does not make financial sense for AMD. The bottom line is that it can compete with pricier Nvidia cards and AMD is not a charity.

In any case, we will know for sure next week as the R9 290X should crawl from under the NDA veil on October 15th.
