Back when the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition was launched, MSI decided to sort of skip it as the previously released R7970 Lightning was more than enough to cope with the competition but MSI decided it is finally time for a slight update, the Radeon HD 7970 Lightning Boost Edition.

The new MSI R7970 Lightning Boost Edition combines the best of both worlds, using Lightning PCB with 17-phase VRM, dual-BIO, GPU Reactor and good TwinFrozr IV cooler with AMD's Tahiti XT2 GPU. Although the original R7970 Lightning already had an impressive 1070MHz GPU and 5.6GHZ memory clocks, the new Lighting Boost Edition takes it to the new level with the 1070MHz GPU base, 1150MHz PowerTune Boost GPU and 6GHz memory clock.

The new card still has 3GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 384-bit memory interface and still features two DVI and four mini DisplayPort outputs.

Unfortunately, the precise availability date or the actual price were not announced.
