Cebit 2009:
DAAMIT, ATI's 40nm is real

We were quite surprised when we managed to find an RV740 card at Cebit, but this time we are talking about the mobile version of the chip. ATI has announced that the RV740, its first 40nm GPU, should be available in early Q2, probably April, and Asus might be among the first to ship it.

The new GPU has should have 512MB of memory, while it seems that the one we pictured had 256MB and we are sure that 1GB version might be possible.

The card is branded Radeon HD 4860 and the driver recognizes it as Radeon 4500. The card in Asus’ new notebook works at 680MHz core and 500MHz memory, but these values might be wrong especially as Catalyst claims that the card uses DDR2 memory, something we haven’t seen for a while. We are quite sure that the card has GDDR5 support but it should be supporting GDDR3 as well.

Back in December time we reported that RV740 first silicon was out even then, and this proves we were right all along.
