Australian Simon Owen shared CCTV footage on social media after the “battery failed and exploded”.

The footage shows the customer pressing his thumbs down on the iPhone, which already has a cracked screen, before smoke fills the shop.

“A customer came into the store with screen damaged iPhone 6+ for repair. [They] wanted to repair a broken screen and complained of the Apple brand battery not holding charge,” a spokesperson for the store said.

He had just got around to removing the customer’s Otterbox [smartphone case] and was preparing to book the phone in.

“Then, the customer picked up [the] phone and applied a regular amount of pressure to the screen, the same as any normal person would do every day during regular use.

“The battery failed and exploded. The initial force of the explosion caused the screen to come off the phone.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald it was a total coincidence that it happened when he was talking to the repairer and that it was filmed so that it could not be denied by the Tame Apple Press.

On the plus side the customer bought Owen a crate of beer after the incident which helped calm his nerves considerably.

While Apple is saying nothing about the incident the Tame Apple Press insists that there is nothing to worry about because the screen was already cracked and it is clear that the Apple fanboy did not care for his phone. For a start he had not taken it into a genius bar to be fixed.

One newspaper even implied that it was a fake because the serial number also appears to have been scratched off. There are also no reports of the owner of the phone reporting the issue to Apple.

We wonder how they knew that. Did some reporter ring the press office and listen to an Apple Press Officer saying they had no reports of an iPhone 6S exploding and the hack accepted that as true?
