Running at 1080p on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is a next-generation remaster of the original release. It tunes just about everything to improve the ambience and enhance the gameplay.
The Definitive Edition will arrive for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 7th in North America and October 10th in Europe. The Definitive Edition as we told you previously will include 24 pieces of DLC including the Year of the Snake and Nightmare in the North Pole add-ons which will also be included. (We are still not 100% sure that this means that you will get all of the previously released DLC, but we suspect that these 24 pieces are pretty close to all of the released DLC when they claim that the DLC is valued at $85.) Beyond the DLC, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition will also include special packaging and a limited edition art book.
Developer United Front Games has not been specific about if the game will be running at 60fps or not on all of the platforms. While they have increased the resolution and enhanced the gameplay, they have not been specific yet on what else has been added beyond the better ambience of Hong Kong, increased graphics and visuals, and higher audio fidelity. United Front claims that the visuals have been pushed far beyond what was possible with the previous generation of consoles.
While Square Enix and United Front were not specific as to the reasons for the decision to revisit Sleeping Dogs and spend all of the time and money enhancing the game for re-release on the next generation consoles. Sources tell us that part of the decision has to do with the fact that the company and developer are hoping that the reintroduction of Sleeping Dogs for the next-generation consoles will help pave the way for the sequel to Sleeping Dogs which is believed to be named Sleeping Dogs: The Triad Wars.
While United Front has promised more info on Triad Wars in 2014, so far nothing beyond the name is really known. It is possible that Square Enix might take the news of the release of Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition to at least announce more about when we can expect to see Sleeping Dogs: The Triad Wars. One thing our sources have told us is that it is possible that Sleeping Dogs: The Triad Wars may be a next-gen only release, which is another good release to do the release of Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition.
We can’t stress enough that you should check out Sleeping Dogs if you like this sort of game. We have had a lot of fun playing it and its one of the better games of this type released in quite some time. We suspect that the improvements that they have made with the feedback from the fans in the Definitive Edition will only make the game better.
