John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts, has told investors that Star Wars: The Old Republic already has 1.7 million paying subscribers; and these are people playing well beyond their first free month of playtime. This, of course, is a good sign.

The game is on track to have 2 million subscribers in the fold by June of 2012 and maybe sooner if all goes will. The game will also be helped by its launch in the Asia-Pacific region later this month.

The numbers seem to back up the fact that the game will be successful in the long term as it continues to build upon its base.
