Blizzard has announced that it is canceling its annual BlizzCon event for 2012, while the company confirmed that the next BlizzCon will take place in 2013. Blizzard is apparently just too busy to hold the event this year.
In what Blizzard is referring to as a “jam-packed schedule,” the studio is focused on the delivery of Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm and getting them released as soon as possible. It is unknown if this is a byproduct of the announcement that the studio was working to speed up its release cycle to get products out quicker.
We will have to wait and see if canceling BlizzCon pays dividends in Blizzard’s ability to stay focused and get these announced releases out sooner. It is expected that Diablo III will be the next release from Blizzard and that is expected by spring, according to the latest best estimates.
