John Carmack from id Software announced via his Twitter feed that the Doom 3 source code was packaged and finally ready for release. The Doom 3 source code is from 2004 and the release will shed light on id’s id Tech 4 technology that was used in the game.

According to Carmack, the source code is packaged and tested and all they are waiting on is the final clearance from the lawyers to get it out there. Once released, it will likely spur some development in the PC arena as every previous id source code release has.
