Lego Universe in the hands of Lego

Colorado-based developers to make transition
The Lego Group has taken control of the Lego Universe MMO with their purchase of developer NetDevil. While the project was a work-for-hire development gig, apparently the Lego Group has decided that purchasing the development team, equipment, and offices are the right move to secure the feature of the title.

While there were apparently some layoffs associated with the transition, the team remaining will apparently continue the development of Lego Universe. We have heard some rumbling about the possibility of something being up with the NetDevil Lego Universe team, but it was vague. Later, we heard that everyone was good to go and there would not be any layoffs or job losses.

It is hard to know what the future will be for those remaining. Some of the development will be absorbed into Lego corporate, but the small development team will continue for the time being. While rumors of an additional expansion to Lego Universe continue, it remains unconfirmed at this point. Given everything that has transpired to date we think the Lego Group will catch its breath before figuring out the future direction of the MMO.
