Realtime Worlds brings 23 developers back

MyWorld generating a lot of outside interest
Just when you thought that the situation at developer Realtime Worlds could not get any worse, a spot of good news arrived today in the news: apparently, the company’s MyWorld project is generating a lot of outside interest.

As a result of the interest, Begbies Traynor (who is handling the administration and potential reorganization of the company) has moved to hire back 23 of the 60 developers that were previously working on the MyWorld project. It isn’t quite clear what these developers will be doing yet, but we suspect that they will be again working on the 3D virtual world platform known as MyWorld in an effort to get it ready to be shown to potential parties interested in it. We are hearing whispers that suggest that the MyWorld assets could be sold off or the entire project (including the developers) might be spun off to continue development.

From the news that we are hearing now, the company let 157 employees go; but including the 23 developers from the MyWorld team that were just brought back, the administrators have retained 53 jobs. Apparently, Realtime Worlds owes creditors about $4.7 million dollars. We are sure that a number of sharks are now circling and looking very seriously at the possible purchase of the company or its assets.

As for news about the recently released title APB (which many have told us basically sunk the company) according to our sources, Begbies Traynor wants to assure gamers that APB will continue and they have retained staff to support the title during this restructuring process; and they would like to see APB not only continue, but continue to be supported and enhanced. Apparently, APB isn’t drawing as much interest, but some parties are looking at it as something to build upon. According to those we have spoken with we suspect that it is likely that APB will be sold and it will likely continue in some form or another.
