Will arrive starting this Sunday for $199.99

As we had already told you about, Nintendo is now confirming that the Wii in arrive in stores in North America on Sunday, May 9th. This is no real surprise, as it was confirmed by our sources last week.

There will not be a price cut and the price will still be $199.99. For your $199.99, however, you will get the Wii console, nunchuk, Wii Sports, Motion Plus adapter and Wii Sports Resort. The addition of Wii Sports Resort and the required Motion Plus adapter are new from previous bundles.

From our understanding, while White console bundles may still be floating around, we are told these will not contain the Wii Sports Resort or the Motion Plus adapter. According to our sources, there are no current plans to update the white consoles with these additions. Of course, things could change as we get closer to the holidays. Interest does seem to be high in the black colored version of the console, but it is no different other than the color of the housing, from our understanding.

While Nintendo is likely to get a bit of a sales bump from the launch of the black version of the Wii, we agree with most analysts that are saying that any sales increase will not be sustainable long- term. The black Wii bundle really offers nothing new other than the addition of Wii Sports Resort and the Motion Plus adapter, which do make it a better value; but unless you want the Wii in black or you are buying your first Wii, we don’t see it making a long-term impact.
