Rumors suggest this is the case

Activision has sent out a survey to gauge the potential interest in another artist-only version of a Guitar Hero title. If the rumors are to be trusted, it would appear that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are to get their own Guitar Hero title.

In the event the reports prove to be true, the Peppers would join Aerosmith, Metallica, and Van Halen as artists who have received their own Guitar Hero title. The decision to choose the Peppers to get their own game is not that surprising, as some of their songs are reportedly the most popular tracks in previous Guitar Hero releases, according to our sources.

With Green Day getting its own Rock band title, the choice of the Red Hot Chili Peppers perhaps makes a lot of sense when you combine this with the fact that the band also has an upcoming album that is to be released very soon. The Peppers have a strong back catalog of songs that would translate well in the Guitar Hero environment, according to our sources.

If a Chili Peppers release is to arrive before the end of the year, we expect it to be announced at E3 by Activision along with another release in the main Guitar Hero franchise. It is possible that Activision may offer a promotion similar to what they did with the release of Guitar Hero Van Halen. In that promotion, those that pre-ordered and purchased Guitar Hero 5 received Guitar Hero Van Halen by mail-in offer.

What was unique about the Van Halen deal was that the buyers received Guitar Hero Van Halen several weeks prior to the official release of Guitar Hero Van Halen in stores. According to our sources, Activision considered the promotion quite successful and it helped to ramp up the sales of Guitar Hero 5. After all, whether or not the game itself is good, why would you pass up the chance to get a free game with additional Guitar Hero content?
