Our goal is to innovate

In a
pretty revealing interview with Kotaku, Reggie Fils-Aime, the president and CEO of Nintendo America revealed the mojo that keeps pulling Nintendo’s hardware ahead of the competition, regardless of the fact that it is technologically inferior.

The rumors and the possibility of Wii HD has been on everyone’s mind for a while now, but Fils-Aime says that high-definition by itself is not what the company deems the next frontier, but rather that they should “provide a whole new compelling experience in [their] next generation." While the company acknowledges and is interested in HD, it alone is not enough to justify a new console, and rightfully so if we may add.

Fils-Aime added how Nintendo constantly tries to innovate and is after what will make the public as well as techies go “Wow, I didn’t see that coming.” In fact, to drive his point even further, Fils-Aime said how Nintendo would be ashamed of doing what Sony and Microsoft are doing – which is pretty much copycatting what Nintendo had and did a long time ago. He went on saying "I think we would have been embarrassed to do what our competitors are currently doing.”

Despite recent slump in sales, Nintendo seems to be far from desperate to launch a new console. In fact, if holiday sales are any indication, then Wii will have a long, long time to go before it hangs its Wii Nunchuck.
