The trend continues for PC games

The latest game that will not be offering either LAN or dedicated server support is the upcoming Command & Conquer 4 for the PC. According to the latest that we have been able to find out about the title the game will require an Internet connection for play as part of the game’s anti-piracy protection.

The news that Command & Conquer 4 will not offer LAN support is surprising in the fact that the previous releases of the game made their mark in many ways being played locally at LAN parties. The decision, according to our sources, has a lot to do with the decision to require an Internet connection as well as the progression system that will be housed on remote Electronic Arts servers in the cloud.

While the trend of not providing local LAN or dedicated server support appears to be something that isn’t going away anytime soon, we are surprised that developers and publishers are continuing to move in this direction despite the cries from many players who against the trend. At least for the time being, it would seem that developers and publishers are not listening to what consumers want, despite the roots of many of the titles that are going this direction.
