Ranger ready by the end of the year

Motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle maker Polaris is to launch its first electric vehicle, with an aim to advance the company’s position in the electric vehicle market.

Polaris said the full-size Ranger, which it is developing in partnership with Zero Motorcycles, will launch in late December. Deliveries of the vehicle will start in early 2022.

In 2017, the company had said it planned to launch an electric bike under its marque Indian brand in four to five years. It is yet to provide an update on those plans.

Polaris interim CEO Mike Speetzen said the move will open another chapter in powersports innovation.

“With the rising interest in electrified vehicles, we are investing in electrification to meet the needs of current customers as well as appeal to tomorrow’s powersports riders. The all-new electric RANGER is our latest effort aimed at leading the industry forward in electrified powersports vehicles”, he said.

Polaris Mike Donoughe, senior vice president and chief technical officer, Polaris said: “This will be one of the most technically advanced off-road vehicles on the market and reinforces Polaris’ position as the innovation leader in powersports.”
