Windows 8 tablets slated for October launch
Emphasis on x86
The first Windows 8 tablets are reportedly coming in October, but it seems the focus will be on x86-based designs rather than ARM.
According to Digitimes, HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer and Asus are developing x86 tablets that should have some advantages over the ARM crowd, namely already established supply chains. However, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and Nokia are gunning for ARM tablets that still offer lower costs.
Acer, Asus and Lenovo are hedging their bets and they are expected to introduce both ARM and x86 designs. However, at this point is seems x86 will come a few months earlier, as most Windows ARM tablets will show up in early 2013, apart from Nokia’s lineup that is slated for a November launch.
