Samsung to ditch 10-inch netbooks next year

by on25 November 2011

Focus shifts to tablets, ultraportables

It appears Samsung is planning to discontinue its 10.1-inch netbook range in early 2012.

In an email sent to its European partners, Samsung says the outfit will officially discontinue the notebook range in Q1. Samsung goes on to say that it will focus on 11.6- and 12-inch ultraportables, as well as new ultrabooks in 2012.

However, this does not mean Samsung will no longer offer affordable ultraportables and it will probably continue to market 11.6-inchers based on next generation Cedar Trail Atoms.

The move is hardly surprising, as netbook shipments have gone off a cliff in recent quarters and many outfits, including Samsung, are shifting to 10-inch tablets anyway.
