by on01 November 2007

4,000 more workers to go

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that by 2009 it will cut another 4,000 jobs to cut costs, at the same time it announced that it was lowering its revenue growth expectations plans due to a deepening slowdown of the North American economy. This announcement was issued amid Alcatel-Lucent’s published forecast that indicated it exceeded its third-quarter adjusted operating profit, and the company’s shares increased by more than three percent after the restructuring (job cuts) announcements. The newly announced job reductions now total 16,500 jobs. In Paris workers unions were preparing to demonstrate in front of Alcatel-Lucent's plush corporate offices.

Alcatel-Lucent is a leading provider of ADSL fixed-line equipment for broadband Internet, telephony and TV broadcasting and mobile infrastructure.
