CES 2008: Ultimate headset with a serious price tag

Sennheiser has expanded their gaming oriented headset line with the launch of the new PC 350 model launched at CES. According to Sennheiser, the PC 350 is the ultimate in headset design; it draws upon the DNA found in other Sennheiser headphones to deliver the most accurate sound positioning and sound quality taht has ever been available in a gaming headset. The PC 350 design is in direct response to gaming teams and gamers who requested a headset able to deliver in the most demanding gaming situations and environments.

Right out of the gate the PC 350 is designed with extra-large ear cushions that fit precisely around the ear to give the gamer the ability to wear the headset for longer periods of time, with comfort being a primary design goal. The use of larger-ear cushions seems to be a trend with many of the new headset designs because it does not put pressure on the ear itself, which leads to the headset being uncomfortable after wearing them for a long period of time. While this trend itself might seem to make the headset look a bit strange, it does seem to offer the comfort that many gamers have been seeking.

In addition, the PC 350 utilizes a circumaural, closed-type headset design that is able to shut out external noises from the headphone environment. This is combined with special shaping of the frequency response to allow for improvement in the gamers' ability to detect the direction from within the game of where a sound (or enemy for that matter) is coming from. This can lead to a response time advantage for the gamer by allowing them to get into an attack or defend posture in fast-paced games where every second counts.

Sennheiser says that the PC 350 will land on retailer shelves in February and will carry a retail price of US$249. If you are serious about your PC gaming and you want the best sound that can be delivered, Sennheiser is all set to give you what you need, but with a price tag like this you had better be pretty serious about your gaming to make this kind of investment.
