Download-only game with expanded storyline

A new Top Gun game based on the movie has been commissioned by Paramount Digital Entertainment for development by doublesix, which is a division of Kuju Entertainment. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this downloadable-only title is that writer Jack Epps Jr., who was the screenwriter of the original movie, will be contributing a new expanded plot that will extend the storyline far beyond that in the original movie. We have no clue if these are unused ideas from the first movie, stuff that was considered for a potential sequel or all new content.

According to what we have been able to learn, the game will feature a storyline that you can play though as well as 16 player multiplayer modes, including horde; deathmatch; team deathmatch; Top Gun; Bombing Run; and Capture the Flag. The game will feature a variety of unlockable planes as part of the progression though the game.

When released, the game will be coming as a download for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Mac platforms. No Wii release is planned or in development, according to our sources, but there are an iPod and iPad versions of the game that do not offer the same content of this release. No word yet on a release date, but our sources say that they have every intention of trying to get it released before the end of this year.
