The popular PhP 4
software that lets servers create customized Web pages such as online
catalog pages or a list of search results is about to be killed off. The
development team for the project have announced that they will only
be supporting it until the end of the year and will only make
critical security fixes available on a case-by-case basis until next
year.
PhP 5 has been out for three years and project programmers say they are
more interested in PHP 6 which is set to launch soon. According to
News.com not everyone is that happy to say good bye to PHP 4.
From
an adoption point of view PHP 5 was not as popular, although the
PHP development team dispute that. Yahoo and Facebook, two prominent
PHP users, have moved to PHP 5, Gutmans said, in part because of better
performance.
