Microsoft announced today that they will start accepting pre-orders for a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Xbox Elite which will feature a 250GB hard drive as well as two wireless controllers as part of the package.

From the whispers that we have heard, Microsoft will be using this Limited Edition model to celebrate the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and will be the first unit that will offer the much talked about 250GB hard drive. The larger hard drive has been a hot topic of discussion for some time, and while this limited edition Elite bundle will feature the new 250GB hard drive, Microsoft is claiming that they have no plans to offer the 250GB drive separately at this time.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2-themed Limited Edition Elite Bundle will retail for $399 and dealers will be able to start taking pre-orders right away from what we are being told. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 themed Limited Edition Elite Bundle will be released on November 10th as part of the official release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Our sources tell us that no one seems to know yet how many of these Limited Edition consoles will be made, but they will be available for customers to snap up in pretty much all markets around the world.

Besides the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Elite console bundle including the 250GB hard drive, it will also include the standard edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, two black wireless controllers, and a standard wired headset. We cannot confirm, but suspect that like the latest Elite consoles that are shipping today, it will not include a HDMI or component HD video cable.

As for the 250GB hard drive and the future, our sources tell us that you can likely expect to see it next year as available separately for user upgrades. Our sources tell us that Microsoft wants to move current inventory on hand and make the 250GB hard drive something really special for those that purchase the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Elite console bundle, so they are at least currently in no hurry to make it available for upgrades to current console owners. We are also hearing, however, that the Super Elite version of the Xbox 360 is not dead, and it is suspected that if the CODWM2 Limited Edition is successful, you will see Microsoft offer the Super Elite with the 250GB hard drive at the same time that they announce it is available for those wishing to upgrade.
