Up to a dozen cores

If you need two more cores than most peopls, or you just want to earn some bragging rights and thin 12 cores is the new black, HP's has got the ideal rig for you.

The HP xw9400 is based on AMD's Opteron 6-core server parts, and, as it's a dual socket platform, you can stick two CPUs into it for a total of 12 cores. HP says the cheapest version, with half a dozen cores and ATI FirePro V7750 graphics will cost you $1,900, and this sounds like very good value for money, almost too good to be true.

There's still no word on 12-core pricing, and as we're not sure the $1,900 price tag for the 6-core is realistic, we don't even want to speculate on it. [As you know, we never speculate.sub.ed]

Although HP says the system is available now,  it seems you'll have to wait a few days to get one.
