AMD releases Ryzen Embedded 7000 series processors

Zen 4 and RDNA 2 for embedded applications

AMD has announced its new Ryzen Embedded 7000 series processors at the Smart Production Solutions 2023, bringing Zen 4 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU architectures to industrial automation, machine vision, robotics, and edge servers.

Built on a 5nm manufacturing process and coming with a solid 7-year manufacturing availability commitment, the Ryzen Embedded 7000 series will support Windows Server, Windows 10, Windows 11, and Linux Ubuntu operation systems, which is quite an important thing in that market. With the integration of AMD Radeon RDNA 2 graphics, it eliminates the need for a discrete GPU for industrial applications.

"Industrial application use cases are continuing to grow in complexity and sophistication and are driving the need for increased processing capabilities," said Rajneesh Gaur, corporate vice president & general manager, Embedded Processors Group, AMD. "With the integration of key performance features and a scalable design, Ryzen Embedded 7000 Series processors are ideal for a broad range of applications from advanced robotics and instrumentation design to power control, video surveillance and more."

AMD is launching a total of five different SKUs, including two 105W and three 65W SKUs. The list includes the low-power12-core/24-thread Ryzen Embedded 7945 with 64MB of L3 cache, which is an impressive little thing considering it works at a 3.7GHz base clock and boosts up to 5.4GHz.

AMD was keen to note that the new Ryzen Embedded 7000 series processors come with a supporting ecosystem including motherboards from Advantech, ASRock Industrial, and DFI.

Ryzen Embedded 7000 Series processors offer:

  • “Zen 4” architecture, featuring up to 12 high-performance CPU cores
  • Integrated Radeon RNDA 2 graphics 1WGP @2.2GHz max
  • AM5 socket, LGA 40mm x 40mm, 1718 pin
  • TDP from 65W to 105W
  • Support for Dual-Channel ECC DDR5 memory at speeds up to 5200MT/s
  • Up to 28 lanes of PCIe® 5 connectivity on-chip
