Hiring, promotions, and unification

AMD has announced a couple of changes in its senior leadership team which should, at least according to AMD's CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, strengthen its leadership team and sharpens the focus on continued growth and market share gains.

According to details provided by AMD, the new name in the company is the industry veteran Sandeep Chennakeshu, hired as executive vice president of Computing and Graphics, and responsible for high-performance PC, gaming and semi-custom businesses. A quick check shows that Sandeep Chennakeshu previously held senior engineering and executive roles at Ericsson, Freescale, Sony, and Blackberry.

Darren Grasby, senior vice president and chief sales officer, will now lead all sales operations, across all product lines, channels and regions.

Forrest Norrod, senior vice president and general manager for Datacenter and Embedded Solutions Group, will now take care of all AMD datacenter products, including CPUs and GPUs.

Mark Papermaster has been promoted to executive vice president and CTO, which does not come as a big surprise as he is definitely a big driving force behind the company's big push and has previously held a title of CTO and SVP of Technology and Engineering.

Dr. Lisa Su, AMD President and CEO, said that this year marks an important "inflection point" for AMD as the company prepares to launch its next-generation 7nm products, adding that she is "excited to strengthen and align our leadership team around our customers and end markets to sharpen our focus on continued growth and market share gains".

Another change in AMD lineup, that wasn't officially announced by AMD is that James Prior, a guy that you could see on a lot of AMD presentations, videos and other things, who held a position of Senior Product Manager and was at the company for almost six years, will be leaving AMD. James announced it on his own Twitter account and we certainly wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

AMD certainly has a big chance to disrupt the market and seem to have an upper hand ahead of its 7nm launch so hopefully, the company will deliver on its promises, as competition will both drive technology advancements as well as shake the market and push those prices down.
