iPod Touch and iPhone to get it in version 2.2

Apple has been called on the carpet a few times over the past couple of months for its rejection of certain applications for the iPod Touch and iPhone for inclusion in the iTunes App Store. One such application was Podcaster, which allows users to do mobile downloads of Podcasts on the fly.

According to sources the reason that Apple had rejected the application is that it plans to introduce the technology to do the same thing with the Version 2.2 software update that is coming for the iPod Touch and iPhone.

With the 2.2 update users will be able to download Podcasts on the fly using a “Get more episodes” button from the Podcast menu. According to our sources, downloads will be limited to only 10MB when not using the WiFi enabled functionality of the device. Sources are also telling us that the 2.2 update will also add Google Street View, walking directions, location sharing, and public transit info, as well.

While Apple does not comment much on why applications are being rejected and now offers the rejection information with a NDA notice, as well, it would appear that Apple had already planned the functionality and the program was nothing more than a duplicate of what they already had in the pipeline.
