With GX730 and GT627

MSI has decided to refresh its lineup of G-series notebooks by introducing the 15.4-inch GT627 and the 17-inch GX730. As a part of MSI's Gaming series both of these notebooks will pack quite a punch with discrete graphics such as ATI's Mobility Radeon HD 3650 and Nvidia's Geforce 9800M GS.

The 15.4 GT627 is based on Intel's PM45 chipset paired up with the Core 2 Duo processors and a dedicated Nvidia Geforce 9800M GS graphics card with 1GB of DDR3 memory. The rest of the features are basically the same as with every other MSI G-series notebooks, so expect it to come with up to 4GB of DDR2 667/800MHz memory, up to 320GB of hard drive space, integrated 2.0M webcam, Gigabit LAN, 802.11n WiFi, CPU Turbo mode feature, highlighted WASD cluster, ultra lightweight magnesium alloy casing and a choice of 6 or 9-cell batteries. The new GT627 has dimensions set at 358x260x27-31mm and weighs 2.7kg without the battery.

The 17-inch GX730 behemoth is based on AMD's Puma platform, so it will feature AMD's RX781+SB700 chipset paired up with AMD's Turion X2 Ultra dual-core mobile processors and the dedicated ATI Mobility HD 3650 graphics card with 512MB of DDR2 memory. The rest of the specs are the same as with the GT627 except for the 5 speaker system which was possible due to the dimensions of this 17-inch behemoth. The GX730 weighs at 3.2kg without the battery and measures 395x278x26.5-35mm.

The price hasn't been announced but these two models should appear in retail pretty soon. (We still believe gaming notebooks make about as much sense as... [insert ridiculous comparison pun here], sub.ed.)
