According to several reports, South Korean tech heavyweight Samsung is considering acquiring flash memory maker SanDisk.

Samsung says it's exploring it's options with SanDisk, but it has made no decision.

"We are looking at various opportunities regarding SanDisk, but nothing has been decided yet," James Chung, a spokesman for Samsung, told Reuters.

This comes as no surprise, as Samsung is the world's top NAND memory supplier, while SanDisk is the top supplier of NAND based memory cards. A match made in heaven one might say.

At the moment, Samsung is forced to pay SanDisk royalties on its SD flash cards, but in case it goes through with the acquisition it will be able to avoid them altogether.

Earlier this year the rumour mill was abuzz with talk of a potential Seagate takeover of SanDisk.
