Update needed for Xbox One controllers

by on10 March 2014

Stereo headset adapter will not work without it

Microsoft has let it be known that the Xbox One controllers need to be updated to get the stereo headset adapter to work and to fully with existing Xbox One controllers The process isn’t really that complicated, but you do have to be on the March system update in order to update your Xbox One controller.

Updating the controller to the latest controller firmware requires you to plug the headset adapter into the bottom of your controller. Then plug the big end of the included USB cable into the USB port on the side of your Xbox One console. This should trigger the update instructions to then be displayed on the screen. Just follow the instructions and you should be good to go. The update process can take three minutes or so once it starts.

This is the second such update to tweak the Xbox One controllers. The first tweaks were requested by Respawn because they felt that the thumbsticks were just a bit to “twichy”, but the developer says that they are happy with it now. The thumbstick tweaks actually increased the sensitivity of the outer boundaries of the thumbstick which appears to be a very good decision. This update applies automatically to the controller when it syncs with the Xbox One, so there is nothing to do on the console owner’s part.

The Stereo Headset adapter is making its way into stores now, just in time for the release of Titanfall. As we talked about previously, the Stereo Headset adapter allows the use of pretty much any headset with the Xbox One.
