Moving a bit from its usual Aurora style desktops, Dell has announced a new Alienware X51 desktop packed in a "console-size" chassis.
The new Alienware X51 starts with a Core i3-2120 3.3GHz CPU paired up with Nvidia Geforce GT 545 GPU with 1GB of GDDR5 memory. These specs are upgradable to either Core i5-2320 and even Core i7-2600 3.4GHz CPU and Nvidia Geforce GTX 555 GPU. It is based on Intel's H61 Express chipset mini-ITX motherboard and features a 240W PSU (upgradable to 330W).
The rest of the features include up to 8GB of DDR3-1333 memory in 2 DIMM slots, up to 1TB of HDD space, slot-loading DVD or Blu-Ray drive, integrated WiFi via DW1502 802.11bgn WLAN card, integrated high-definition 7.1 audio with WAVES MAXX audio, six USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 1.4 output and ships with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.
All those features are packed in a 343x95x318mm (HxWxD) chassis in matte stealth black with dark chrome accents and lime green additions color. The CPU is cooled by Alienware High-Performance air cooling and it does indeed looks like something that can stand proudly next to any console.
Of course, such specs are nowhere near those needed for serious high-settings 1080p gaming, but we guess that this one will surely hold its ground pretty well. The price for the base model starts at US $699.00 and it can climb up to US $1149 for the top equipped one that can, according to Dell, push Battlefield 3 at 50+ fps at 1080p resolution (most probably at medium settings).
