New Wii hardware coming

by on13 October 2011

Will hit Australia later this month

The new horizontal Wii that features the latest in hardware cost reductions is set to hit Australia later this month. The new Wii model will feature a smaller horizontal form factor that will come in both black and white colored housings.

The biggest difference of the new Wii hardware is that it will be the first Wii hardware to drop all GameCube support for both games and accessories. Previous versions of the Wii had pretty much total GameCube compatibility, which provided the Wii with an increased amount of low-cost GameCube titles to play.

The new Wii will come bundled with Mario Kart Wii, a Wii Wheel, a Nunchik, and the Wii Remote Plus. The new model is said to be priced at about $200. It is expected that Nintendo will be pushing out the new model to other regions for the holiday season to achieve some good sales numbers with the new units. Nintendo has yet to officially announce their plans for the new Wii hardware in other regions.
