Claim lives and businesses destroyed

Yahoo!
is being sued again over its cooperation with the Government of China (P.R.C.) that resulted in arrest, imprisonment, loss of property and loss of business by the plaintiffs.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Oakland, California and claims that the information Yahoo! provided to P.R.C. authorities resulted in the arrest and imprisonment of Li Zhi in 2003, in which Li was given an 8-year prison term.  Li, not a plaintiff in the suit, is still in prison and has served about half of his sentence.  The claims of the plaintiffs include violation of international law, torture and lengthy detention, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, assault and unfair business practices.

Yahoo! previously settled another lawsuit last year brought on behalf of two other Chinese dissidents who are currently serving 10-year prison sentences in China due to pro-democracy information in their accounts that Yahoo! handed over to PRC representatives.
