AMD claws back share
IDC has slashed its processor shipment forecast for 2011 due to slow demand in the US and Europe. Global processor sales are expected to grow by 9.3 percent, down from 10.3 percent originally forecasted this year.

CPU shipments dropped sequentially by 2.9 percent, while sales were down 4 percent compared to Q1.Year-on-year shipments were a tad stronger, with 0.6 percent growth.

Intel ended the quarter with a 79.3 percent share, down from 80.8 percent in Q1. AMD managed to grab 20.4 percent, while VIA also jumped from 0.2 percent to 0.3. However, Intel did well in the server market, gaining a bit to end up with a 94.5 share.

Interestingly, IDC claims more than 60 percent of processors shipped in Q2 packed integrated graphics.
