Accelero Xtreme, the behemoth of air cooling

Switzerland-based Arctic Cooling, famous for its low cost/high performance cooling solutions, has announced a new cooler for ATI HD 2900 and Nvidia 8800 series cards. Branded Accelero Xtreme, this behemoth features three 80mm fans and weighs in at 440g.

There are two versions of this cooler, depending on which card you want to cool; one is for ATI's HD 2900XT/Pro cards and the other for Nvidia's 8800 Ultra, GTX, GT/GTS (G80) cards. This cooler comes with five heatpipes that go trough 107 fins, which are then cooled by three 80mm PWM fans. According to AC's press release, all of this should be enough to make the Accelero Xtreme dissipate 240 Watts, and it should get the temperature to at least 20ºC lower than the stock cooler.

The new cooler comes packed with a VRM heatsink, RAM plate, thermal pads and slot bracket, all depending on which version you need. The three fans that are used are 80mm fans, spinning from 900-2000RPM with fluid dynamic bearing. These shouldn't make a lot of noise, since AC has implemented a low noise impeller and patented fan holder.

These coolers should be available by mid-February 2008, at the suggested retail price for Accelero Xtreme 2900 of US$49.90 / €34.90 and US$47.90 / €32.90 for the Accelero Xtreme 8800.
