Will use a new Vita card format specific to the system
When Sony releases the PlayStation Vita, users looking to embrace the system will also have to embrace a new memory card format that is specific to the Vita. The cards look in some ways very similar to a standard SD card, but are smaller and shaped differently so as to be format specific to the Vita.

While the fact that it is incompatible with previous Sony formats isn’t really a surprise, what might surprise you more is the number of sizes the cards will initially be offered in. According to our sources, the PS Vita cards will be offered in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB sizes to start with. Whispers indicate that 64GB and 128GB densities are possible, but currently are cost prohibitive.

As for speed of the Vita cards, we are told that the performance should be similar to between a SDHC Class 6 and Class 10 card, which is able performance for the Vita according to what we have been told. It is unknown if Sony is planning some sort of adapter so that data can be copied over from your computer, but at the moment we don’t think it is out of the question.
