Claims up to 4,000 points in 3DMark06

Fujitsu-Siemens is the first company with a notebook that features AMD's new ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2700 GPU, and the company claims that it will score up to 4,000 points in 3DMark06 at default settings. The GPU is paired up with 256MB of GDDR3 memory and can access a further 767MB of HyperMemory.

The AMILO Xi 2550 is something of a strange beast. It is a high-end consumer notebook with a 17-inch screen with a native resolution of 1,920x1,200, and it comes with either a Core 2 Duo T7250  processor at 2GHz or a T7700 at 2.4GHz. It uses the Intel P965 chipset, but oddly, Fujitsu-Siemens claims that it won't take more than 2GB or DDR2 memory in total, even though it has two memory slots and accepts 2GB SO-DIMMs.

Other features include the option for Turbo Memory, the option to install two hard drives in RAID, although Fujitsu-Siemens only offers the AMILO Xi 2550 with a 5400 RPM 250GB drive, so it's either one or two of these. A DVD super multi-drive comes as standard, but a Blu-ray drive can be fitted as an optional extra.

It does, of course, have a wide range of the general stuff you'd expect to see in a high-end notebook, such as 802.11n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.0, a dial-up modem, a Webcam, three USB 2.0 ports where one is enabled to allow you charge your USB devices even if the notebook is powered off, an ExpressCard 54 slot, a 5-in-1 memory card reader and FireWire, but the most important ones had to be HDMI and eSATA.

We found the AMILO Xi 2550-22P version for sale in Finland with a Core 2 Duo T7700 processor, 2GB or RAM and dual hard drives, but no Blu-ray drive, will set you back over €1,600. We also spotted the same model with a Blu-ray drive for sale in France for €1,799.
