At least not in Japan and Europe

The new lighter PlayStation 2 will hit Japan on November 22nd, but it will not cost any less. Rumors were circulating that it would retail for under $100, but this is not going to happen, at least not in Japan.

The new PS2 is the same size as the current PS2, but it is a bit lighter and comes with an built-in AC adapter. The price in Japan is ¥16,000 (US$140) and it will be available in three colors: Charcoal Black, Ceramic White and Satin Silver.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed that the same "built-in AC" model is coming to Europe but not in time for the big holiday shopping spree. So, once again Europe has to wait until next year. According to the next-gen.biz, U.K./Europe won't be getting a price cut and the new Playstation 2 will continue to sell for the suggested prices of £94.99 / €129.99.
