New SSD from Samsung in the wings
Features 50nm SLC flash memory
Samsung is set to launch another salvo in the solid state drive (SSD) market space with the announcement of a new SATA II 64GB SSD drive that features 50nm SLC flash memory. Using the new interface, the drive is rated to deliver sequential reads of 120MB per second and writes up to 100MB per second. These numbers smoke the first generation SSD drives released by Samsung.
Samsung also claims that these drives are able to hold a candle to the Mtron SSD drives which feature sequential read speeds of 120MB per second and write speeds of 90MB per second. Samsung will start production in early 2008 and is currently starting to sample the drive now. Pricing has yet to be set or released from Samsung on these new SATA II SSD drives.
